There’s no doubt that Foghat has finally “made it” in the United States, where they’ve consistently played to sold-out houses on massive tours. Tours that would have put musicians with less stamina in hospitals.

But in England — the country that Foghat comes from — they’ve never toured. Now they’re about to remedy that situation, with a big one planned for the fall that will take them to England, Germany, Holland and France. Before that, they’ll do some large outdoor concerts here — after taking the month of July off for a well deserved rest.

Talking by telephone from his Long Island home, Foghat guitarist Rod Price laughed about having never played in England. “It’ll be very exciting,” he said, “but they think we’re American anyway. “Our manager just came back from there and there seems to be a lot of interest in us,” Rod continued. “So we’ll do a big tour there, but it won’t be anything like the hectic schedule of an American tour. We’ll probably just go for a month, England especially is such a small country, and there really are only seven or eight places to play: just London and the major cities.”

Rod said that despite the pressure of their tours, they enjoy playing to a live audience more than anything else they do. “If 10,000 or 20,000 people come to see you, it’s just such a rush that you can’t help but put everything you’ve got into it. “Of course when we were playing to 1,000 people, backing Edgar Winter or Humble Pie when we first came here six years ago, we were happy. Nobody ever talked about going out and selling platinum albums or anything like that. The goal was just to get better, and that’s what we did.” “We’ve built up to it all slowly, and we’re totally aware of what we have.
